What should I carry when I go Geocaching?

Geocaching is a fantastic game that can be played by anyone all over the world but you will need to remember to take care when you are hunting and take certain things along with you for emergencies. Sometimes caches are hidden in remote areas like forests, so take things like water, food, an extra set of clothing if the weather is unpredictable, and perhaps a flashlight in case you are going later in the evening.

When you go hunting you can switch on your GPS device close to the area that you are going to. It is also wise to take a friend along with you just to be on the safe side. You can follow the GPS tracking to the parking area, if there is one and then continue your quest using the GPS compass. Make sure that you have a backpack ready to go into the woods with and it may be a good idea to take a medical kit with you, especially if you are going to a level where there is dangerous terrain. In this kit you can have pain killers, heat blanket, swabs, ointments, and anything else you can think of.

Another item that you should carry when you go Geocaching is a trinket to trade with the cache that you find. This may not always be the case, but just take one to be on the safe side. Once you find your cache you should write in the log book, so take a pen with you, and take paper as well in case you need to work out any encryption code that you find to get to the cache.

If you are heading out hunting in the hotter months, then make sure you take a hat with you, cool clothes, maybe a deodorant, and wear sunscreen. You never know how long you could be out there for, so be prepared. The amount of equipment will also depend on the terrain, so if you are venturing off the trail then proper shoes will be necessary and if you are going alone, tell your family and friends where you are going. Wear long pants, otherwise you might meet with some nasty poison ivy, snakes, or thorns.

There are other dangers in the woods too like bears, cougars, bees, and spiders so be aware of your surroundings, and also look out for abandoned mines and wells that you can easily fall down. Another asset to have with you is a printout of your cache. It can help you to find it more easily and you can check that you have entered the correct coordinates. It also eases police and park rangers that may stop you for looking suspicious.
